Moving out of a home you have lived in for many years is a big step. Over the years I have helped a lot of people through it, and I’ve learned that the hardest part is usually knowing where to begin.
That’s why I put together a simple plan I call Lakefield – The Next Chapter. It breaks the move into five steps.
1. Clarify what matters most
Before we talk about houses, we talk about you. Do you want one-floor living, less yard to look after, or to be closer to family? Do you want to stay in Lakefield, or is it time for something different?
2. Understand the finances
Knowing what your home is likely worth today makes every other decision easier. I can prepare a written opinion of value at no cost. Your lawyer, accountant or financial advisor can help you with the rest of the picture.
3. Create a timeline
Some people want to move in three months. Others want a year to sort and plan. Either is fine. We set a pace that suits you.
4. Prepare the home
Sorting through years of belongings is often the biggest job. I can put you in touch with local people who help with decluttering, cleaning, small repairs and moving.
5. Work with the right guide
You should feel comfortable asking any question, as many times as you need to. That’s how I work.
If you are starting to think about your next chapter, I’d be glad to sit down with you and talk it through. No pressure, and no obligation.
